Casual Character Chat is a passion project created to give everyone access to a private, uncensored, and independent AI companion experience. It costs nothing and is offered freely. No company, no subscription, no data harvesting — just a tool that belongs to you.
This application was built from the ground up with a privacy-first principle. Your creations, characters, and conversations belong exclusively to you — and only you.
The app interface runs entirely in your browser. There is no account system or cloud storage for your library. All persistent app data you generate — including characters, chat histories, personas, images, settings, and saved API keys — is stored exclusively on your own device in your browser's IndexedDB database.
The app does not upload your stored library as a whole. Data leaves your device only when needed for an API request as described below, when you load an external web resource, or when you explicitly export or share it.
Requests to the standard OpenRouter chat-completions endpoint are sent directly from your browser to OpenRouter using the API key you provide; that key is not sent through this project's proxy. Local-provider requests are also sent directly. If you configure another remote API provider, its browser restrictions may require the app to relay the request through this project's backend proxy. In that case, the provider-specific key and the request content pass through project infrastructure on their way to the chosen provider. Please review the privacy policy of your provider and avoid using a proxied provider if you are not comfortable with this request path.
This application does not add its own censorship or content filtering. Your chosen AI provider may still apply its own usage policies, moderation, or filtering to API requests.
Because your data exists only on your device, you are solely responsible for keeping it safe. Please use the "Export Data" feature regularly to create backups. Clearing your browser data will erase everything.
By using the "Casual Character Chat" application (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Use.
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. The developer reserves the right to update or discontinue the App at any time without notice. No uptime or availability is guaranteed.

The developer provides the App without any warranties of performance, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. The developer is not liable for any damages, including but not limited to data loss, financial loss from API usage, or service interruptions. You use the App at your own risk. The developer is not responsible for the availability or conduct of any third-party services such as OpenRouter.
These terms shall be governed by the laws of Austria.

The intent is simple: this project was made freely available so that everyone can benefit from it equally. It must remain that way. If you build something great with it for yourself — enjoy it. But please don't take something offered for free and make it unavailable or costly for others.
The Starter Character Pack included with this app may contain characters inspired by or based on existing anime, video game, or other fictional universes. All intellectual property rights to these characters remain solely with their respective original creators and rights holders. No ownership, affiliation, or endorsement is claimed by this project.
The character entries in the Starter Pack are provided exclusively as demonstration examples — to give users a concrete sense of what kinds of characters can be created and to serve as an accessible sandbox to explore and experiment with the app's features. They are not intended as reproductions or commercial use of the source material.
Any avatar and background images included in the Starter Pack likewise remain the property of their respective original creators and rights holders. They are used solely to demonstrate the app's image feature and to show how a fully configured character creation looks within the app. No ownership or rights over these images are claimed by this project.
